A German Messerschmitt Bf 109E just shot a Soviet Lavochkin LaGG-3 fighter. Did you see the open cockpit of the Soviet fighter? Is the pilot going to jump?

The Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3 was made of wood but still overweight and underpowered. It was still the best fighter the Soviets had at the start of the war in 1941. Over 6,500 were produced before moving production to the Yak-3 in 1944.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was an all metal plane and operated between 1936 and 1945. With almost 34,000 planes, it is the most produced fighter aircraft in history.

High quality poster. Reproduction of original handmade painting by Thijs Postma.
